I loved going to Goblin Valley in Utah. The terrain is a wonder to behold. Strange creatures dot this part of our Earth. One must visit here to truly appreciate the strange and marvelous shapes that create the "Goblins." The Little Wild Horse canyon Hike is so beautiful. The day we hiked was hot and we all had our shorts on. We've done this hike before. We have our water and a few snacks. As we hike the walls loom over us giving the much desired shade. The girls spot and give chase to little fast running lizards Over we go and under we go as we come to huge boulders and just smaller rocks. We find hiding places and narrow places. There are very narrow turns and continual beauty. Some places are so narrow our feet don't touch the earth, just the wall sides. There are times we can't even see the sky. We sing and shout to hear the echo. Dad, as usual gets silly and we hear him sing, "Rawhide." We each take a turn to whoop and holler. We laugh and giggle. We come to this very big boulder and have to crawl under it. Each of you need a boot up to sit on this rock. There is a favorite moment caught in time when all my silly loved ones sing together. "Rawhide!"
Can you hear it echo?

Rawhide!!
I think my mind might have wandered while hiking and I used to think about where we would get water if we were stuck (I looks for pools of water and plants). Or, what if Teeke, or worse, Dad fell. How would we get them outta there. Then I used to wonder why that one opening always smelled of you know what. Had someone really gone or was it rotting animal? It really is a cool place isn't it? What fun vacations we've had!
What a great forum, to share such great family traditions!! I enjoy every post!!!
Remember when I came back from BYU-Hawaii and I taught you all the words to a Maori song that I had learned in the Kiwi Club? This is how it went:
Kiko, kiko terehua, ke fea te taunga, O te titi wai tori, Pare pare mai ra, koe titi wai waka, etc.
I think that Elsha really liked that song. Thanks for giving it a try everyone.
Little Wild Horse Canyon is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I'm glad we discovered it some years back and have enjoyed this hidden treasure many times over the years. Our ward youth conference there was also memorable, as was the time we took Nastya to Goblin Valley and Little Wild Horse.
